ALPS maps is an educational tool intended for higher education students and provides a framework of competencies that users can reference throughout their learning and continuing professional development.

The 4 competency maps presented in this App were developed after extensive consultation across 16 different health and social care professions by the ALPS CETL project. They can be used by both students and practitioners throughout the learning and training process.

Using the App users can review the competences involved in four key areas:
- Communication
- Team Working
- Ethical Practice
- Patient Safety

Users can record notes against each competency and mark the individual elements as achieved.

Using the switch in the iphone settings you can choose to switch from the default health and social care versions of these maps to more generic versions that can be used by other professions.

ALPS Background.
The Assessment & Learning in Practice Settings (ALPS) Centre of Excellence in Teaching & Learning (CETL) was a collaboration between five Higher Education Institutions:
- The University of Bradford
- The University of Huddersfield
- The University of Leeds (lead)
- Leeds Metropolitan University
- York St John University

The ALPS CETL mission was to ensure that students graduating from courses in Health and Social Care are fully equipped to perform confidently and competently at the start of their professional careers. To achieve this ALPS undertook research and development work to identify, evaluate and support excellent practice in assessment and learning in practice settings.
